I was born in a remote part of Estonia, amidst the sounds of the roaring sea, the whispering forests and the singing birds. Throughout my life, singing was a substitute for speaking. I sing as I breathe. From the age of 6, when I joined my school choir, I spent hours in rehearsals, at camps, on tours and, of course, participating in the song festivals which have become a symbol of the nonviolent resistance to the many oppressions endured by Estonians. Now, having crossed that sea, I feel lucky to have found many wonderful colleagues and amazing spaces to sing whatever my heart desires.
